This is what I do at Easter in dry dock. I clean bilges and it is so much fun. I don’t suffer from claustrophobia so I get put into some really weird places and it test my flexibility. last year I went to and from dry-dock on the ship and I plan to do the same this year. Randomly it is one of the only jobs that I have had where I feel that I fit (in more ways than one).
The work is very physically hard and a day is 8am until 7pm. By the time that the day is finished so are you. Last year I tried to write my VC essay on board but I just wasn’t going to happen. Unfortunately this is my only source of income but because I do dry dock I don’t have to loose my weekends to paid work. This way I get all of my earning days out of the way in one go which suits me.
The boats design is based on the same plans as a WWII destroyer and the electrics are archaic. For instance if you plug the toaster and the kettle in at the same time all the electrics are blown for that quadrant of the ship. However if you ever get the chance to see the crew cabins stripped out you can see the beauty and elegance in her design.
There are still no dates for dry dock
